Heads up: this post contains an affiliate link. If you sign up for Shopify through my link, I may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. I only share tools I actually use and believe in, and Shopify is one of them.
The Short Version
I'm a solo artist. I make everything, photograph everything, write everything, and manage everything myself. When I decided to build MyLittleFe into a real business, I needed a platform that could keep up with all of that without requiring a tech team or a second brain.
I chose Shopify. And I'd do it again without hesitation.
But before I tell you why, I want to be honest about something: Shopify doesn't make you sales. It doesn't build your audience or do your marketing. You still have to show up, create consistently, and find your people. What it does is give you a foundation you can trust, so the business side doesn't become the thing that holds you back. That distinction matters.
Why I Chose Shopify When I Started
I looked at a few options before committing. Etsy felt limiting for building a brand. Squarespace was beautiful but not built for selling. Shopify was the one that felt like it was actually designed for someone running a real business, even a small one.
What sold me was this: everything lives in one place. My store, my email marketing, my analytics, my in-person sales at vendor fairs, my print-on-demand fulfillment through Printify. I'm not logging into five different platforms to understand what's happening in my business. It's all there.
For a solo founder, that's not a nice-to-have. That's everything.
What I Actually Use
Here's what running MyLittleFe on Shopify actually looks like:
The Online Store
My storefront, my collections, my product pages. I control the design, the copy, the customer experience. It looks like a real brand because it is one.
Shopify Email
I send my monthly newsletter directly through Shopify. No third-party email platform to sync, no extra subscription. It connects to my customer list automatically.
Shopify Flow
Flow is Shopify's automation tool and it handles things I used to do manually, like tagging orders by month, sending follow-up triggers, and managing backend tasks while I'm focused on making art.
Printify Integration
My print-on-demand products sync directly with my Shopify store. When someone orders, Printify fulfills and ships it. I don't touch it. That's the dream for a solo creator who also makes original work by hand.
Sales Channels
Google, YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest. They all connect directly to Shopify. My products sync automatically so I'm not manually updating listings across platforms.
Blog and Newsletter
My blog and monthly newsletter both live inside Shopify. No separate CMS, no WordPress, no third-party email tool. My content and my store are in the same place.
Pages: Events, About, and More
My Events page, About page, and all my static content are built right inside Shopify. My entire website is Shopify, not just the shop.
Inbox
Customer messages come through Shopify Inbox. I can respond from the same place I manage everything else.
Shopify POS at Vendor Fairs
When I sell in person at vendor fairs, I use Shopify POS on my phone or tablet. My inventory syncs, my sales are tracked, and everything rolls up into the same analytics I see online. No separate system, no reconciling at the end of the day.
Analytics
I can see what's selling, where my traffic is coming from, and how my store is performing without needing a separate analytics tool. For a solo founder it's more than enough to make good decisions.
Is It Perfect?
No. There's a learning curve. Some things require apps that cost extra. And if you're just starting out and selling only on Etsy, it might be more than you need right now.
But if you're building a brand, want to own your customer relationships, and need something that can grow with you, Shopify is the platform I'd recommend. Not because it will do the work for you, but because it won't get in your way when you do.
