I'm writing this from my couch, still recovering from being sick — and honestly, it's been a reminder of one of the hardest parts of running a small business solo: there's no calling in sick. When you're the artist, the maker, and the shop owner all in one, showing up can feel non-negotiable, even when your body is asking you to rest. I'm learning (slowly) that sometimes the most creative thing you can do is give yourself permission to pause.
📖 Featured Story: The Journey of an Everyday Artist
This month, I wrote about what it means to be an everyday artist — not the kind with a gallery show or a fancy degree, but the kind who creates because it's woven into daily life. I share the story of my first professional-grade colored pencil set, the people who believed in me before I believed in myself, and why I think art belongs in the ordinary moments. If you've ever doubted whether you could call yourself an artist, this one's for you.
What you'll take away: A reminder that creativity isn't reserved for the "chosen few" — it's already part of who you are.
🎨 Art Tip: Extending the Life of Your Colored Pencils
This month's tip is simple but powerful: pencil extenders. Those little stubs you're about to toss? They still have so much life left in them. A pencil extender lets you use every last bit, saving money and honoring the tools that help you create.
Why it's useful: Less waste, gentler on your hands, and a more sustainable practice.
🛍️ Studio Update: Be Kind Collection for Valentine's Season
With Valentine's Day around the corner, I wanted to remind you about the Be Kind collection — a line of products featuring my original heart artwork. These pieces aren't about grand gestures; they're quiet reminders to lead with kindness, starting with yourself.
I'll also have some of these available at an upcoming Valentine's vendor fair on 2/14 from 12 - 7 pm at Homegrown Hops Brewing in Livermore, so if you're local, I'd love to see you there!
